In British Columbia, both the provincial government and local boards of education manage the public school system from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Children start elementary school at age 5 and secondary school in Grade 8.
The provincial government funds the education system and sets the legislation, regulations, and policies that make sure every school meets provincial standards and every student receives a high-quality education.
